Le piège du compromis

Ivan, parce qu’il était chrétien, avait été déporté en Sibérie dans un camp de travail. L’hiver y était particulièrement rigoureux, la température descendait jusqu’à moins 50°C, et il travaillait dehors.

La direction du camp lui offrit un travail, dans une pièce chauffée, à condition qu’il coopère avec elle pour une petite chose. Il partagerait le même dortoir que d’autres prisonniers chrétiens pour faire à la police le compte-rendu exact de leurs conversations et de leurs activités.

L’offre était tentante : plus de froid, plus de durs travaux. « Nous voudrions simplement savoir de quoi ces gens discutent entre eux. » Ivan comprit le piège. Il s’agissait en fait de trahir ses frères.

« Savez-vous ce qu’a fait Judas après avoir trahi Jésus ? » demanda Ivan à celui qui lui parlait. L’homme secoua la tête, il ne savait pas. « Il s’est suicidé, dit Ivan… et moi je veux vivre pour Christ ou mourir pour sa gloire. »

La conversation s’arrêta là.

« J’ai dû retourner dans le froid, mais j’avais chaud au cœur », déclare plus tard ce croyant fidèle.

Et nous, chrétiens, serions-nous capables de renoncer à la tentation d’obtenir des avantages matériels, pour rester fidèles au Seigneur ?

Un compromis avec le mal dans notre vie personnelle, dans nos relations professionnelles, familiales ou avec l’ennemi : Satan, a toujours de tristes résultats. Mais la paix et la joie accompagnent la fidélité, quoi qu’il en coûte, à Dieu et à sa Parole.

And us, Christians, us would be capable of giving up the temptation to obtain material advantages, remain faithful to the Lord ? A compromise with the evil in our personal life, in our professional, family relations or with the enemy: Satan, always has sad results. But the peace and the enjoyment accompany loyalty, at all costs, to God and to its Word.
